Presented at the Victoria International Fringe Festival 2015
August 27th to September 6th

An outdoor roaming musical extravaganza, set in the old ruins at Macaulay Point Park in Esquimalt.

THE TRUE STRANGE STORY OF A 17th CENTURY NUN WHO BECAME AN INFAMOUS CONQUISTADOR

“There is no name for what I am. You would have to make a new word.”

It’s the 17th Century; the armies of Spain are slaughtering their way across the New World, and one renowned conquistador, Antonio de Erauso, is famed for his ferocity – until, on trial for murdering his own brother, facing execution, Antonio pleads for clemency – by revealing that he’s actually an escaped nun. Imprisoned and enchained, haunted by the ghosts of the slain, the Lieutenant Nun confesses the story that has been kept secret for so long….

The creators of "Little Orange Man" (★★★★★) team up with the makers of "El Jinete, a Mariachi Opera" (NNNN - SummerWorks 2014) to re-imagine this 2003 smash hit!

Theatre SKAM:

Now celebrating its 20th anniversary season, SKAM is famous for its innovative site-specific work and intimate elegant theatre – and also for SKAMpede, which brings bike-riding audience members to shows along the Galloping Goose each summer. In 2003, SKAM presented "Lieutenant Nun" to rave reviews and enthusiastic audiences.

PUENTE THEATRE:

For 28 years, Puente Theatre has been producing theatre in Victoria and abroad that brings people together – creating bridges between the diverse cultures that form our nation. Led by new artistic director Mercedes Bátiz-Benét, Puente has created wildly unique productions that have toured across the country and internationally, including "The Umbrella" with Bučan Bučan and "El Jinete, a Mariachi Opera" (NNNN), which won the Canadian Stage Award for Direction at SummerWorks in Toronto last summer.

SNAFU DANCE THEATRE:

Founded in 2006, SNAFU seeks to collaboratively create original live theatre to invigorate and challenge people of all ages, emphasizing communities and individuals who have been marginalized, oppressed, ignored or forgotten. Steered by co-artistic directors Kathleen Greenfield and Ingrid Hansen, SNAFU is perhaps best known for its national Fringe favourite "Little Orange Man" (★★★★★).
