Snafu Shows
All the Spectacles SNAFU has created since 2006, with current shows, prison plays, park plays, dance, clown, puppet theatre, and new shows under construction
Snack Music
Snack Music weaves together true stories in a way that is hyper-theatrical and immediate--and involves playing with your food. The show is part house-party, part improv, and part highly-choreographed storytelling.
Sleeping Giants
Sleeping Giants is a play about what happens when the world stops dreaming. The show began inspired by such stories as A Midsummer Night’s Dream and Rip Van Winkle, and soon grew and evolved into a wholly original piece with music, costumes, lighting, set and props--all designed and built by the prisoner team. We follow the story of five human dreamers and a family of dream spirits who act as guides through the subconscious landscape.
Lieutenant Nun
It’s the 17th Century; the armies of Spain are slaughtering their way across the New World, and one renowned conquistador, Antonio de Erauso, is famed for his ferocity – until, on trial for murdering his own brother, facing execution, Antonio pleads for clemency – by revealing that he’s actually an escaped nun. Imprisoned and enchained, haunted by the ghosts of the slain, the Lieutenant Nun confesses the story that has been kept secret for so long….
SomethingVille
The space is clean. Perfect. Harmonious. Until we discover a giant living lump - an enormous booger lurking amidst the garbage. Absurd physical comedy set to classical music, inspired by Pixar, Dr Seuss, and Sci-Fi films of the 1970s.
Fractured Fables
27 prisoners embarked upon an impossible task: to build a giant show from scratch, using the art of puppetry to tell all their own stories. There is no instruction manual. The result is an hour of pure madness–an intense collage of stories where animals and humans reveal themselves through humour, darkness, and love.
CHALK
This is no night at the opera. CHALK is physical theatre performed in-the-round, by prisoners, for a public audience. Follow eight children ‘down the rabbit hole’ into their dreams, fantasies and nightmares, as they face their fear of being alone. William Head on Stage Theatre Society is the only prison theatre company of it’s kind in Canada where the general public can buy a ticket, enter the Institution, and experience their live shows.
Ginger Ninjas
Twelve-year-old foster system rejects Franchesca and Nicholas live in a Universe all their own…but all that changes when they receive a letter from a blood relative which catapults the pair into the journey of a lifetime. Armed with nothing but their wits, each other, and their superhero sensibilities, they embark on a search for the older brother they never knew existed.
PRiMP
Created and performed for the event Schoolhouse Rocks produced by Theatre SKAM & the Homegrown Collective in 2008 and 2009. The audience tours through an old schoolhouse building and takes in a collection of performance shorts from ten different companies in ten different spaces. SNAFU’s piece PRiMP took place in the girl’s washroom, and featured maxi-pad caterpillars, tampon mice, and a lot of candy.
Bike Ride
BIKE RIDE is an annual event produced by Theatre SKAM, featuring short site-specific performances from ten different companies along the Galloping Goose Trail in Victoria, BC. SNAFU has created site-specific theatrical shows for BIKE RIDE (now called SKAMPEDE) since the event's inception in 2009.
Riyoku Butoh
Riyoku Butoh follows a journey of self-inflicted isolation and the search for a human connection through a demented wonderland. This production is not purely Butoh, but a blend of Butoh philosophy, modern dance and acrobatics used to explore the beauty and warped obsessions of human nature.
